Close Combat Magazine caught up with Jesus Hernandez Arnela from Spain, and here is what he had to say about his martial arts experience.

Q: What is your full name?

A: Jesús Hernández Arnela 

Q: What karate school do you attend?

A: I am a private student of Professor Gualberto Moncayo, Buenos Aries, Argentina

Q: What karate style do you practice?

A: Kajukenbo 

Q: What belt rank are you currently?

A: Black Belt 6° dan

Q: How old are you?

A: 43-years-old

Q: What martial arts associations are you affiliated with?

A: MONCAYO’S Kajukenbo  Academy and  World Professional  Martial Arts

Q: How did you get into Karate, and what can you remember from your first time training?

A: I started training when I was 4 years old, I don’t remember much, but it was hard training from the beginning.

Q: Who have you been training with lately and what’s have you been working on?

A: Gualberto Moncayo 

Q: What have you been doing to get a better edge when it comes to fighting?

A: You have to study your opponent and anticipate their attacks, so you’ll have a better defense.

Q: What’s your all time favorite Karate movie and why?

A: The Way of the Dragon

Q: What do you enjoy most about practicing karate, or you martial arts style?

A: It teaches me to be a better person and control every moment of my life.

Q: Growing up who was your favorite martial arts movie star?

A: Bruce Lee

Q: Tell us about your karate master and school?

A: My teacher is someone who has been in the martial arts for many years, has trained with great teachers and has always been active, our school is something unique, because it is based on the mutual respect of teacher and student.

Q: Do you have a preferred weapon of choice?

A: My preferred weapon is my hands.

Q: What do you like most about karate?

A: The discipline that exists within the system.

Q: Do you have a signature karate move?

A: What I’m best at are katas, the movement that develops in them is unique and teaches you to carry on day to day.

Q: How often do you work on your karate training?

A: Daily, every day I spend at least 2 hours of work.

Q: How long have you been doing karate training?

A: 39 years.

Q: How’s your favorite Ninja Turtle?

A: They are all my favorite.

Q: Did you ever stop your karate training, and why?

A: I stopped for a period of time to help my assist my father more who needed my help because he suffered from physical problems.

Q: Tell us about your success in karate tournaments?

A: Whenever I have participated in tournaments I have been champion, I have not attended championships for many years.

Q: What is your goal in martial arts?

A: Learn a little more every day to be a better person.

Q: Tell us about your favorite memory of your karate experience?

A: A: Being able to be together with my brothers at a tournament.

Q: Have you done any special training with famous karate personalities, or who would you like to train with?

A: Si. Raúl Gutiérrez, Juan Carlos Álvarez, Agustín Sánchez, Rene Díaz

Q: Who is your favorite comic book super hero?

A: Superman

Q: What else do you enjoy doing other than karate?

A: I enjoy writing.

A: Forjado a Fuego
