Its been called the original mixed martial arts and the perfected art of street fighting. In 2007, Kajukenbo the Gaylord Method was featured on Fight Quest, a Discovery Channel’s look at the different styles of martial arts from around the world.

Now a new book about Kajukenbo the Gaylord Method has karate kicked its way into annals of karate and mixed martial arts literature. Its a must have for every martial artists’ book collection.

In the book, Kajukenbo 5th Degree Black Belt John Hojlo, palm strikes his way through elaborating the origin of Kajukenbo, his experience within Kajukenbo Gaylord Method, and brings fourth insights from its leading grandmasters and practitioners.

He is a 5th degree, under Kajukenbo Gaylord Method Grandmaster Ron Esteller of San Leandro, California. Hojlo currently lives and leads a Kajukenbo Gaylord Method School in Okayama, Japan.

“I’m proud of what the book is, and what it’s become. It’s a collection of ideas I’d had floating in my head for a long time, and I think it asks questions that people need to consider to keep Kajukenbo relevant for the future…and to help it evolve for the future, as it’s supposed to,” John Hojlo said.

The book, it’s currently available only on Amazon.

“In conversation they’ve (martial artists) said they enjoyed it,” Hojlo said. ” People tell me they totally connect with the ideas, and they tell me it got them thinking of things regarding their art…all the positive feedback from people tells me I must be doing something right.”
