Close Combat Magazine had a chance to catch up with Ayan Rosalee Kelley, Lansing Sexton’s varsity wrestler in the 165 boys varsity, 155 girls division representing Sexton’s girls wrestling. Here is what she had to say:

Q: Why did you get into wrestling?

A: I initially got into it to loose weight but as I continued with it even after I lost weight, I came to love the sport.

Q: What do you love most about wrestling?

A: I love the familial bonds and the wrestling community.

Q: Who is your favorite wrestler?

A: London Houston

Q: Who is the greatest wrestler of all time?

A: Yojiro Uetake

Q: What is your best memory on the wrestling team?

A: Winning districts last year.

Q: Who has helped you become the wrestler you are today?

A: Coach Jeffery Howard, Coach Aaron Tucker, and most of all my mother and my family.

Q: Do you recommend wrestling to others, why or why not?

A: Yes, I do! It’s a great sport, the discipline that you get from this sport definitely helps with other things in life as well! I know because it’s helped me a lot. 

Q: What do you like most about being on the wrestling team?

A: There’s no judgment.

Q: How do you prepare for your next match?

A: I prepare by eating good, also trying my hardest in practice to prepare for upcoming matches.

Q: What is your goal for this wrestling season?

A: To place at regionals. If I can make it to states and place as well.

Q: What is one of your goals for after high school?

A: To become an anesthesiologist, starting off as a paramedic. If not then a CRNA. Also to take up wrestling in a college level.

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: History

Q: What is your dream school/university?

A: Iowa, if not Iowa then North central, or University of Michigan. 

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Fried cheese ravioli!

Q: What is your favorite song/music artist?

A: Ivy by Frank Ocean

Q: What actor would play you in a Hollywood movie?

A: Mrs. Potts in the Beauty and the Beast or Rosalie Hale in Twighlight.
