Close Combat Magazine caught up with Aylein Madrigal, Edinburg High School’s 126 pound wrestler to ask her about her experience in the sport wrestling. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: Why did you get into wrestling?

A: As a freshman in High school, I wasn’t good at any of the main sports but I had aggression. A teacher recommended me and it was the best decision ever.

Q: What do you love most about wrestling?

A: I love the bond you can make in the sport, most importantly the teammates and memories you make on the way.

Q: Who is your favorite wrestler?

A: My favorite wrestler is my State placer of a teammate, Kenia Islas.

Q: Who is the greatest wrestler of all time?

A: The greatest wrestler would be Ric Flair.

Q: What is your best memory on the wrestling team?

A: My best memory would be the loudness of my teammates on the side of the mat , always cheering me on win or lose.

Q: Who has helped you become the wrestler you are today?

A: My coach, Coach Abel Saenz never gave up even when I was a weak wrestler in the begging and has helped me excel into moving onto the next level.

Q: Do you recommend wrestling to others, why or why not?

A: I would recommend it if you have a passion for aggressiveness.

Q: What do you like most about being on the wrestling team?

A: The memories being made.

Q: How do you prepare for your next match?

A: I always joke around with my teammates just to get the nervousness out.

Q: What is your goal for this wrestling season?

A: Qualify for state.

Q: What is one of your goals for after high school?

A: After high school I wish to peruse my dreams into the medical field.

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: English
