Close Combat Magazine had a chance to catch up with Shayla Barrett, Williamston High’s freshman wrestler in the 155 pound division representing Williamston. Here is what she had to say:

Q: Why did you get into wrestling?

A: My coach/Brother-in-law got me into it.

Q: What do you love most about wrestling?

A: The Aggression

Q: Who is your favorite wrestler?

A: My coach

Q: Who is the greatest wrestler of all time?

A: My coach

Q: What is your best memory on the wrestling team?

A: getting my first pin

Q: Who has helped you become the wrestler you are today?

A: my teammates and my coach

Q: Do you recommend wrestling to others, why or why not?

A: yes, it is a great sport. It’s fun, good for conditioning and all around will just help you in life.

Q: What do you like most about being on the wrestling team?

A: I like being the only girl on Team.

Q: How do you prepare for your next match?

A: I brainstorm what i’m going to do like moves I’m gonna do and I make sure I am thinking positive thoughts through out the whole thing.

Q: What is your goal for this wrestling season?

A: To get in shape and to make even more friendships and to be the best I can be.

Q: What is one of your goals for after high school?

A: I would like to Wrestle for Grand Valley.

Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?

A: Math

Q: What is your dream school/university?

A: Grand Valley

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Bagels

Q: What is your favorite song/music artist?

A: My favorite song is Cowgirls by Morgen Wallen.

Q: What actor would play you in a Hollywood movie?

A: Probably Adam Sandler, he’s the best.
